ADOPTION SEARCH

26 October 2006

Now that we are over the euphoria of the last fantastic reunion, its time to get down to some serious research. Trouble is, I've never attempted to find someone who was formally adopted and I'm a bit at a loss where to start. In the early days we tried to approach the authorities under the Freedom of Information legislation. I'm not certain but I could have sworn I heard the whirr of shredders in the background. They told us adoption records had been destroyed in the sixties but we managed to find an index card which contained little useful information but did have one hand written entry dated 1976, so they had been less than truthful. Other agencies we have approached have shown a more than passing interest in the contents of my bank account, but little in the way of advice other than "Give us your money". Has anyone out there got experience in this field? Can anyone give me any suggestions on the best place to start. If I can get my first step into the jungle, I'm well prepared to take a machete to the red tape!
